Houston Area Live Steamers – Free Train Rides @ Zube Park
Zube Park is full of play grounds, picnic tables, jogging trails, etc. The park draws a big crowd each month when the trains are running. They run on the third Saturday of each month from March to November. The hours vary from month to month so check the website before you drive out there. They typically start the train rides at 9:00 a.m. They run until 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. depending upon the month. The park is located off of 290 in Hockley, Texas.
Train lovers of all ages are invited to ride the six mile journey for free. The wait depends on the length of the line, and the ride lasts about 15 minutes. It the line isn’t too long, you can ride it several times. They have three club diesel engines that usually run the passenger trains. At times, you may also find a steam engine running. On rainy days, you can call 281-758-8012 to see if the trains are still running.
